When I was a young girl I remember my mom telling me that she cut her long hair in her early twenties because she became a mother. Back then, in the 1950’s it seemed like a rite of passage into adulthood and or motherhood. Maybe it was liberating or just easy to have short hair when you were busy with children. It is not like that anymore. I certainly don’t agree with those rules of long ago. No one has the right to tell us how we should wear our hair at a certain age. I feel what goes for fashion also applies to our hair. Look in the mirror. How does your hair look? Does your haircut fit your lifestyle? Is it easy for you to manage? Do you like yourself with long hair or short hair or in-between.
I don’t do well with change. I have had long hair for many, many years. On occasion I have cut it a little shorter, only to grow it long again. I do need some sort of bangs. I don’t have a great forehead. I always felt that I needed hair close to my face. I wasn’t much of a ponytail girl. I am told that it is more flattering to brush hair away from your face and also give it some height. Layers also work well. This actually flatters your jawline more than bringing your hair towards your face. I do believe that if you have very thin hair then a shorter cut is more flattering. Shorter hairstyles can be practical and stylish. Shorter haircuts often require less maintenance, which is great for those leading an active lifestyle. Additionally, short hair can be a bold and empowering choice. My hair has thinned a lot over the years, so maybe it’s time to go short. But, I am going to hold on to my long hair as long as I can. I’m 70 and long hair works for me!
I think that hair color should make you happy. I hate when my hair is gray. My hair starts to turn gray about two weeks after it is dyed. I don’t go to the salon each time because it is costly. In between salon visits I use “Root Touch-up” by Clairol. It is so easy to use and it works. I like my hair to be a light to medium brown base with golden highlights. My skin is on the pale side, so I don’t think I can go too light. What hair color do you have? Many woman embrace the silver strands that come with age, finding joy in the graceful cascade of long, gray hair, embracing a more authentic and confident self. Ladies, you rock those silver strands!
What length is your hair? What hair color do you love? I can’t have the color I really love because it is very damaging to my hair. Whatever length or color you choose for your hair, it is a unique expression of your identity, encapsulating experiences, confidence, and personal flair.
What are your thoughts on hair length and color!?! Do you think age should determine our hairstyle?

This is a great discussion! My hair has been very long, very short( when I became a mother). Now I am growing my hair again! I am very fortunate that my color is natural with only a touch up every 7 weeks. What color would you want your hair, Elyse?
Hi Maxine,
That is so great that you only need a touch up every 7 weeks! I almost need one every three weeks. I think I like my hair medium brown with golden blonde highlights. I’m having an issue now with my hair falling out so I’m trying not to highlight my hair. I really don’t know if that makes a difference or not but hopefully it does. I’m hoping my hair will get stronger. I’m taking a hair vitamin but so far don’t see a difference. I think it’s stress related. Everything seems to be. lol
