Wasting Away Again in Margaritaville

Jimmy Buffett will always be known for his laid-back, tropical-themed music that often celebrates a carefree island lifestyle.   His music is often classified as “Gulf and Western,” a fusion of country, folk, and rock with a distinct coastal influence.

One of Jimmy Buffett’s most famous songs, “Margaritaville,” released in 1977, became an anthem for those seeking an escape from the pressures of everyday life.  The song’s catchy melody and vivid lyrics transport you to a fictional paradise, complete with frozen concoctions and flip-flops.

Beyond his music, Jimmy Buffett was also a successful author.  He has written several books, including novels, children’s books, and autobiographical works.  His novel “Tales from Margaritaville” offers readers a deeper glimpse into the world he creates through his music.

Jimmy Buffett’s impact extends beyond entertainment; he’s known for his philanthropic efforts, including environmental conservation work in the Gulf Coast region.

Over the years, Jimmy Buffett’s influence has spread globally, with a dedicated fan base known as “Parrotheads.”  His concerts are renowned for their festive atmosphere, where fans come dressed in Hawaiian shirts and grass skirts, creating a communal celebration of music, relaxation, and escapism.

In essence, Jimmy Buffett’s music embodies a spirit of escapism and a desire for a simpler, more carefree way of life, making him an enduring figure in American popular culture.

I got to experience Jimmy Buffett’s laid back way of life when I stayed in Margaritaville in Hollywood, Florida.  As soon as you walk in to the lobby you feel the vibe.  The flip-flop that Buffett blew out, when he stepped on a pop-top, is standing there as big as life!

The entire resort gives off the Jimmy Buffet way of life vibe!  We stayed on the eleventh floor which has a beautiful pool and bar for adults only.  When you walk out of the hotel on the beach side there are two gorgeous pools with cabana huts that you can rent for the day.  The huts have a fan, refrigerator, television and you are served a complimentary array of fruit.  You can order lunch from your cabana hut, or sunchair, or dine at one of the  restaurants.  I loved eating at the Landshark with a spectacular view of the beach and ocean as well as the “Broadwalk.”  You can also watch brave people try their surfing skills on the surfing machine.  The resort also has a gym, a spa, an authentic Margaritaville store.  Oh and I almost forgot – the best gelato I have ever tasted!

We enjoyed a couple of breakfasts on our terrace which had a beautiful view of the ocean on one side and the intercoastal on the other.
